The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a 4th generation home video game console developed by Nintendo. Celebrated for Ken Kutaragi's Sony SPC700 sound chip and rich Mode 7 background scaling. The system frequently leveraged specialized co-processors embedded inside cartridges (Super FX RISC chip in Star Fox, SA1 in Mario RPG, DSP series in Mario Kart). Accurate emulation requires handling these co-processors synchronously with the main 65C816 CPU.

The Technical Hurdle: Standard 16-bit games run everywhere; Super FX and SA1 co-processor titles require a modest quad-core processor.
