Compiled & reviewed by Urs von Gunten, HandheldWiki editorial · How we rate ·

NetherSX2 is an open-source standalone (community build) emulator developed by Community (built on AetherSX2 by Tenzin). It is primarily designed to emulate PlayStation 2 on Android.

Architecture & Technical Design

AetherSX2 was originally developed by Tenzin as an authorized ARM64 port using PCSX2's core recompilers. Following the cessation of AetherSX2's original upstream development in 2023, the open-source community created NetherSX2 as a transparent builder script that takes clean original APK binaries and applies essential fixes. NetherSX2 strips unwanted telemetry and advertisements, updates game compatibility database definitions, fixes Daijishō and EmulationStation launcher intents, and integrates custom Mesa Turnip driver support for Snapdragon-powered retro handhelds.
