DraStic DS Emulator — Emulation Architecture, Settings & Handheld Guide
DraStic DS Emulator is an open-source standalone emulator developed by Exophase. It is primarily designed to emulate Nintendo DS on Android.
Architecture & Technical Design

Engineered by Exophase, DraStic is celebrated as one of the greatest feats of low-level ARM assembly optimization in software history. When launched in 2013, running dual-screen Nintendo DS games on early mobile hardware was considered near-impossible. DraStic bypassed heavy overhead through hand-crafted ARM dynarecs and custom multithreaded 3D software rendering. In 2024, Exophase made the app completely free on Google Play in preparation for transitioning the project to open source.
Target Consoles & System Profiles

DraStic DS Emulator is engineered to emulate the following video game hardware platforms:
| Console | Generation | Native Resolution | Original CPU Architecture | Tested Handhelds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo DS | 7th generation | Dual 3.0" TFT LCD screens (256 × 192 each, bottom screen resistive touch) | Best Handhelds → |
Recommended Settings & Handheld Optimization

Key settings for balancing framerate, visual fidelity, and battery efficiency on mobile processors:
| Setting | Recommended Value | Technical Impact & Advice |
|---|---|---|
| High-Resolution 3D | Enabled | Doubles 3D polygon render resolution from native 256x192 to crisp 512x384. |
| Multi-threaded 3D | Enabled | Renders 3D geometry across multiple CPU cores for stutter-free performance. |
