YabaSanshiro — Emulation Architecture, Settings & Handheld Guide
YabaSanshiro is an open-source standalone & libretro core emulator developed by shinya. It is primarily designed to emulate Sega Saturn on Android, Windows, Linux, iOS.
Architecture & Technical Design

Based on the historic Yabause project, Japanese developer shinya extensively overhauled the rendering and dynarec pipelines to create YabaSanshiro. By converting Saturn VDP1 quadrilaterals and VDP2 affine layers into modern GPU triangles, YabaSanshiro achieves full speed on modest mobile hardware while allowing internal resolution upscaling up to 4K resolution.
Target Consoles & System Profiles

YabaSanshiro is engineered to emulate the following video game hardware platforms:
| Console | Generation | Native Resolution | Original CPU Architecture | Tested Handhelds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sega Saturn | 5th generation | — | Best Handhelds → |
Recommended Settings & Handheld Optimization

Key settings for balancing framerate, visual fidelity, and battery efficiency on mobile processors:
| Setting | Recommended Value | Technical Impact & Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Rendering Backend | Vulkan | Improves framerate stability and reduces CPU overhead on Android handhelds. |
| Resolution | 2x to 4x | Sharpens Saturn 3D graphics on 720p and 1080p handheld screens. |
Capable Handheld Hardware
Based on our database benchmarks across 575 handhelds, 162 devices have the CPU IPC, GPU fillrate, and memory bandwidth to run systems emulated by YabaSanshiro at Grade A (full speed) or Grade B (great):
