mGBA — Emulation Architecture, Settings & Handheld Guide
mGBA is an open-source standalone & libretro core emulator developed by endrift. It is primarily designed to emulate Game Boy Advance, Game Boy & Game Boy Color on All Platforms.
Architecture & Technical Design

Written in C by developer Jeffrey Pfau (endrift), mGBA was created to replace outdated emulators like VBA that relied on accumulated hacks and had critical security flaws. Designed with rigorous adherence to Nintendo hardware timing, mGBA runs even the most obscure edge-case ROMs flawlessly while remaining lightweight enough to run on micro-controllers and sub-$40 retro handhelds.
Target Consoles & System Profiles

mGBA is engineered to emulate the following video game hardware platforms:
| Console | Generation | Native Resolution | Original CPU Architecture | Tested Handhelds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Game Boy Advance | 6th generation | 2.9" reflective TFT LCD (240 × 160 resolution, unlit original) | Best Handhelds → | Wiki Guide → |
Recommended Settings & Handheld Optimization

Key settings for balancing framerate, visual fidelity, and battery efficiency on mobile processors:
| Setting | Recommended Value | Technical Impact & Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Color Correction | GBA / GBC Profile | Restores authentic color saturation originally tuned for unlit handheld screens. |
| Interframe Blending | Smart or Ghosting | Accurately recreates transparency effects in games like F-Zero and Golden Sun. |
Capable Handheld Hardware
